For the Normal Fertile Woman

The Biphasic Sympto-Thermal Chart identifies:

• The pre-ovulatory relatively infertile phase (Days 1-8 inc)

• The start of the fertile phase with the onset of the mucus symptom on day 9.

• The days of maximum fertility when highly fertile mucus is present (Days 12-14)

• The peak mucus day (Day 14) - the last day of highly fertile mucus.

• The temperature shift on day 16, confirming ovulation.

• The start of the post-ovulatory infertile phase (Day 18) following the third high temperature after peak mucus day.

For purposes of avoiding pregnancy, the pre-ovulatory infertile phase always carries a slight risk of pregnancy, whereas once ovulation has been confirmed, the post-ovulatory infertile phase is highly effective against pregnancy.
